1. Tankless vs. tank: what changes in your kitchen

The G3P800 filters on demand, so there is no storage tank and no wait for a tank to refill after you fill a pot. Waterdrop rates it at 800 gallons per day. The trade-off is that it needs electricity, so you need an outlet under the sink (Waterdrop G3P800 product page).

The ROES-PH75 stores filtered water in a 4-gallon pressurized tank. You get a quick burst from the tank, then it refills slowly. APEC rates the system at 75 gallons per day at 60 psi and 77°F (APEC ROES-PH75 product page); the WQA certification listing shows a daily production rate of 27.9 GPD (WQA Gold Seal directory (APEC)). If your home has low water pressure or cold winter water, expect output toward the lower number.

2. Under-sink space

The Waterdrop is one box, 18.11 × 5.67 × 17.72 inches. The APEC filter assembly is 15.5 × 5.25 × 17.5 inches, and the tank adds another 11 × 11 × 15 inches. In a small cabinet, or one shared with a garbage disposal, the tankless unit is usually easier to fit. Measure first.

3. Certifications: read the listing, not the box

“NSF/ANSI 58” is a test standard. NSF, IAPMO R&T and WQA are separate certifiers that test products to it. Neither system shows up in NSF’s own database (NSF drinking water treatment listings) because neither is certified by NSF.

  • Waterdrop G3P800: Waterdrop says IAPMO R&T certifies it to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 58 for the claims on its performance data sheet, and to NSF/ANSI 372 for low lead. That data sheet lists PFOA reduction above 98%, PFOS above 99% and TDS at 93.59% (Waterdrop G3P800 performance data sheet).
  • APEC ROES-PH75: The WQA Gold Seal directory lists it under NSF/ANSI 58 with TDS as the reduction claim (WQA Gold Seal directory (APEC)). APEC’s product page lists many other contaminants it says it reduces, but those are not on the certification listing (APEC ROES-PH75 product page).

EPA’s advice for PFAS is to choose a filter certified to NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 and to confirm the specific chemicals on the certifier’s listing (EPA filter guide). On that test, the Waterdrop has the documented PFOA/PFOS claim; the APEC does not. Not sure your tap has PFAS? Check your ZIP’s grade and read our EPA PFAS limits explainer.

4. Waste water

Every RO system sends some water down the drain. Waterdrop publishes a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio, meaning about 1 gallon to drain for every 3 gallons of filtered water (Waterdrop G3P800 product page). APEC does not publish a ratio on the ROES-PH75 product page, so we can’t compare the two on waste.

5. Taste and minerals

RO strips most dissolved minerals, which some people find flat. The ROES-PH75’s sixth stage adds food-grade calcium carbonate to raise pH (APEC ROES-PH75 product page). The standard G3P800 does not; Waterdrop sells separate remineralization and alkaline bundles at extra cost.

6. Filter changes and 5-year cost

The Waterdrop uses three cartridges on a fixed schedule: CF every 6 months or 550 gallons, CB every 12 months or 1,100 gallons, RO every 24 months or 2,900 gallons (Waterdrop G3P800 product page). Its smart faucet shows TDS and filter life. At tonight’s prices that is $159.97 a year, matching the average annual cost Waterdrop lists.

The APEC uses standard 10-inch housings. APEC recommends changing stages 1–3 and 6 every 6–12 months and the membrane and post-filter every 2–4 years (APEC complete filter set and pre-filter set pages). Because the schedule is a range, we show both ends. Over 5 years the APEC costs $535.79 to $858.54 in total, versus $1,668.85 for the Waterdrop (see the math box above).

How to choose in 4 steps

  1. Check your water. Look up your ZIP’s grade and your utility’s annual report for PFAS, lead and TDS.
  2. Measure the cabinet and check for an outlet. The G3P800 needs power; the APEC needs room for a tank.
  3. Match the certification to your concern. For PFOA/PFOS, pick a system whose listing names them.
  4. Budget for filters. Add 5 years of cartridges to the price, then set the free reminder above.

FAQs

Which is better, the Waterdrop G3P800 or the APEC ROES-PH75?

It depends on budget and space. The Waterdrop G3P800 ($999.00 on waterdropfilter.com, Oct 26, 2026) is tankless, rated 800 GPD with a 3:1 pure-to-drain ratio, and certified for PFOA and PFOS reduction under NSF/ANSI 53. The APEC ROES-PH75 ($268.99 on apecwater.com) costs far less, uses a 4-gallon tank, and adds calcium after filtration.

Is the Waterdrop G3P800 NSF certified?

Waterdrop says IAPMO R&T certifies the G3P800 to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 58 for the claims on its performance data sheet, and to NSF/ANSI 372 for low lead. It does not appear in NSF's own listings database because IAPMO, not NSF, is the certifier. NSF/ANSI is the standard; NSF, IAPMO and WQA are separate certifiers.

Does the APEC ROES-PH75 remove PFAS?

APEC lists many contaminants, but its WQA Gold Seal listing (checked Oct 26, 2026) certifies the ROES-PH75 to NSF/ANSI 58 for TDS reduction only. If certified PFOA and PFOS reduction matters to you, EPA advises choosing a filter whose NSF/ANSI 53 or 58 certification names those chemicals.

How much do replacement filters cost for each system?

On Oct 26, 2026, Waterdrop listed the CF filter at $29.99 (every 6 months), CB at $29.99 (every 12 months) and RO filter at $139.99 (every 24 months), about $159.97 a year. APEC listed its stage 1-3 and 6 pre-filter set at $55.95 (every 6-12 months) and its complete stage 1-6 set at $98.95 (membrane and post-filter every 2-4 years).

Why does APEC say 75 GPD when the WQA listing says 27.9 GPD?

APEC rates the ROES-PH75 at 75 gallons per day at 60 psi and 77 degrees F. The WQA Gold Seal listing shows a daily production rate of 27.9 GPD from certification testing. Real output depends on your water pressure and temperature, and the 4-gallon tank covers short bursts of use.
